History
Chatuchak Market owes its origin to Field Marshal Plaek Phibulsongkram, the late prime minister of Thailand (1938-1944, 1948-1957), who came up with the idea of setting up a flea market in every town. As a result, the first flea market in Bangkok was held at Sanam Luang and was called Sanam Luang flea Market. However, there was time when the place was needed for other special functions and the flea market was then relocated to Saranrom Palace and settled there for 8 years. After that, it was moved again to Sanam Chai. But because of the limited space, it had to be moved back to Sanam Luang. In the same year, the government issued a policy to turn Sanam Luang into a public park for citizens of Bangkok and to be the venue to celebrate 200-year-anniversary of Bangkok, which would be held in 1982. Thus, it was decided that the flea market would be held at the Phahonyothin area from then on and it is later called Chatuchak Market after the nearby park under the same name.
In recent years the market has gained considerable notice among conservationists and the World Wildlife Fund; Chatuchak has become a notorious hub for trafficking illegal and endangered species. This activity was covered on CNN's "Planet in Peril" series. Despite publicity, Thai law is rarely able to pursue a course of action in preventing the illegal trade. mini led torch

Chatuchak Weekend Market
Spoke wrench
China Product
Overview
Spoke nipples are typically T-shaped in cross section, with an internal thread running part of the way through the hole that runs along the spoke nipple's principal axis. A spoke nipple rests in a hole drilled radially through the wheel's rim, and the nipple is threaded onto the external thread of a spoke. The spoke itself is fixed, at its other end, through a hole in the hub. The spoke and nipple are functionally equivalent to a bolt and a nut. However, unlike a typical nut-and-bolt pair, a spoke and nipple do not join two parts (the rim and the hub) so much as bridge them, under tension.
The area of the nipple around which the spoke wrench, or key, is fitted in use is square in cross-section. Spoke keys may be 3- or 4-sided; the latter type has a small cutout to enable it to be fitted over a spoke, after which it may be slid along to engage all four flats of the nipple. It is less likely to round off the nipple than the 3-sided type, but is slower to use. creative asio
Sizes install heatsink
Common sizes of spoke nipples (flat-to-flat) include: buy isight
0.127" (3.23 mm) (DT/Wheelsmith nipples)
0.130" (3.30 mm) (most European)
0.136" (3.45 mm) (most Asian)
These values for size do not indicate the interior diameter, which is critical for fitting to the spokes.
Use
A spoke wrench is used in the creation, maintenance, or repair of hand-built or machine-built spoked wheels. The goal in such activity is to bring the wheel (nearer) to a state of true - namely, a wheel in which the rim is: a perfect circle concentric with the axis of the axle in the hub; and, planar, such that the plane of the rim is centered laterally between the two extremes of the axle where it is supported in a frame.
By increasing or decreasing the tension of individual spokes, or groups of spokes, around the circumference, a wheelsmith can correct for local deviations from true - e.g. wobbles, or hops.

Disposable camera
China Product
History
A company called Photo-Pac produced a cardboard camera beginning in 1949 which shot 8 exposures and which was mailed-in for processing. Cameras were expensive, and would often have been left safely at home when lovely scenes presented themselves. Frustrated with missing photo opportunities, H. M. Stiles had invented a way to enclose 35mm film in an inexpensive enclosure without the expensive precision film transport mechanism. It cost $1.29. Though incredibly similar to the familiar single-use cameras today, Photo-Pac failed to make a permanent impression on the market.
The currently familiar disposable camera was developed by Fujifilm in 1986. Their Utsurun-Desu ("It takes pictures") or QuickSnap line used 35 mm film, while Eastman Kodak's 1987 Fling was based on 110 film. Kodak released a 35 mm version in 1988, and in 1989 renamed the 35 mm version the FunSaver and discontinued the 110 Fling. coal tar epoxy
In Japan, the Utsurun was released in 1986 for 1380 yen and became widely accepted. Because of the immediate appeal, companies like Konica, Canon and Nikon soon produced their own models. To stay competitive, Fuji introduced advanced features to its original model such as panoramic photography, waterproofing and the inclusion of a flash. Some cameras even have a manual zoom feature which works by shifting two lenses in front of the shutter. acrylic exterior paint
By 2005 disposable cameras were a staple of the consumer film camera market and flash-equipped disposables were the norm.[citation needed] exterior texture paint
Common uses
Disposable cameras are popular with tourists and are also a common solution for underwater photography by those who don't own a dedicated underwater camera or waterproof housing.
Since the late 1990s, disposable cameras have become increasingly popular as wedding favors. Usually they are placed on tables at wedding receptions to be used by guests to capture their unique perspective of the event. More commonly they are available in colors to match the wedding theme such as ivory, blue, white, gold, etc.
So-called "accident camera kits" containing film-based disposable cameras are increasingly being carried in vehicles to take images as evidence after an accident. Film photography is potentially a more credible form of photography in the event of a dispute due to the ease with which digital photography can be edited.
Their often cheap plastic lenses, questionable film quality, fixed focal lengths but quick and 'point and shoot' ease make the disposable camera popular with many photographers who enjoy the 'less than perfect' style these cameras provide, in a move away from digital imagery, which can also be seen in the rise in popularity of 'lomography'. This has also led to a number of 'lost art' type projects where disposable cameras are left in public spaces with a message for anyone finding the camera to take some images and then post the camera back, or pass it on to another person. The low cost of the cameras makes them a perfect tool for these sorts of projects.
Digital
Digital one-time-use cameras (and also digital one-time-use camcorders) are available in some markets; for example the US saw the introduction of a digital camera in 2004. Digital disposables have not had the success of their film based counterparts, possibly from the expense of the process (especially compared to normal digital camera use) and the poor quality of the images compared to either a typical digital camera, or a disposable film camera. Usually, the display shows the number of shots remaining, and once this is completed, the camera is returned to the store. The digital files are then extracted from the camera, and in return for keeping the camera, they are printed out or stored to CD (or DVD in the case of the Video Camera ) for the customer. Almost all digital 'single use' cameras have been successfully hacked to eliminate the need to return them to the store. The motivation is not simply to save money but to remove artificial limitations (such as the 25 shot limit on internal memory that can store at least 199 images), extend its purpose, or for some specialist use such as this attempt at kite aerial photography or portrait photography..
Other uses
The high-voltage photo flash mechanism in some cameras has been extracted and used to power devices such as coil guns[citation needed] and homemade Geiger counter projects .

The Graduate Institute of International Studies was founded in 1927. Its moving spirits were the scholariplomats William Rappard and Paul Mantoux who worked together as senior officials in the secretariat in the first headquarters of the League of Nations building, the "Palais Wilson". Their shared vision was for a graduate school for preparing statesmen and secretariat staff via impartial study of international relations as an academic field.
Rappard was influential in convincing his friend US President Woodrow Wilson to locate the League in Geneva. Indeed, the current site of the Institute in the Parc Barton on the shore of Lake Geneva, was one of the first sites considered for the organization headquarters. The original mandate of the Institute highlighted the aim of working closely with the League and the International Labour Organization (its precursor in Geneva) in a cooperative exchange through which HEI would prepare staff and delegates, while the intergovernmental organizations would provide intellectual resources and diplomatic expertise as guest lecturers. The Institute continues as an intellectual catalyst and magnet known as the "Geneve international".
The professors chosen to teach at the Institute constituted a galaxy of brilliant academic merit. As Rappard himself was to observe, ironically, the two men to whom the Institute owed a debt for so happy a selection were Mussolini and Hitler! From 1928 onwards, the faculty consisting of co-directors Professors Mantoux and Rappard, and two local teachers was reinforced by the arrival of eminent newcomers from abroad - Hans Wehberg and Georges Scelle for law, Maurice Bourquin for diplomatic history, and Pitman B. Potter for political science; and the rising young Swiss jurist, Paul Guggenheim.
These outstanding scholars were soon joined by other heavyweights, notably Hans Kelsen, the towering theorist and philosopher of law, Guglielmo Ferrero, the polymath Italian historian, and Carl Burckhardt, scholar and diplomat. Later arrivals, also seeking refuge from the dictatorships, included the apostle of the free market economy, Ludwig von Mises, and another economist, Wilhelm Ropke, who wielded much influence over German postwar liberal economic policy and the development of the theory of a social market system.
Around the constellation of permanent professors orbited a galaxy of visiting professors teaching for a semester or two, or giving cours temporaires. The list of their names reads like an Almanac de Gotha of prominent intellectuals of the 1930s. Between 1928 and 1957, in addition to the 40 professors who had taught for a minimum of one semester, over 260 lecturers from Switzerland or abroad, contributed through their weeklong cours temporaires to enriching considerably the curriculum of the Institute.
In a sense the cours temporaires were the intellectual showcase of the Institute, attracting such names as Raymond Aron, Ren Cassin, Luigi Einaudi, John Kenneth Galbraith, G. P. Gooch, Gottfried Haberler, Friedrich von Hayek, Hersch Lauterpacht, Lord McNair, Gunnar Myrdal, Harold Nicolson, Philip Noel Baker, Pierre Renouvin, Lionel Robbins, Jean de Salis, Count Sforza, Jacob Viner, and the Montagu Burton Professor of International Relations at Oxford University, Sir Alfred Zimmern.
The last-named deserves separate mention for his own pioneering role in the systematic study and teaching of international relations. As early as 1924, while serving on the staff of the International Council for intellectual Cooperation in Paris, he began organising summer schools in international affairs under the auspices of the University of Geneva - the "Zimmern schools" as they were known. That initiative was taken in parallel with the early planning for the launch of the Graduate Institute and the experience acquired by the former helped to shape the latter. Zimmern retained friendly connections with the Geneva institute when he moved to Oxford to take up the first specialized chair in international relations at the University of Oxford.
Despite its small size (the faculty never exceeded 25 members before the 1980s), four of those who have taught for more than one semester (i.e. excluding guest lecturers for shorter periods) have won Nobel Prizes for economics - Gunnar Myrdal, Friedrich von Hayek, Maurice Allais, and Robert Mundell.
From 1927 until 1954 HEI obtained most of its funds from a generous subvention provided by the Rockefeller Foundation. Since then the Canton of Geneva and the Swiss Federal Council have borne most of the costs. The change in financial sponsorship coincided with a change of Directorship in 1955, when the Lausanne historian Jacques Freymond took over from William Rappard. Freymond inaugurated a period of rapid expansion in the range of subjects taught, in the size of the faculty and in student numbers, which continued after his retirement in 1978. During that period HEI was host to many international colloquia dealing with subjects as diverse as preconditions for east-west negotiations, relations with China and the rising influence of that country in world affairs, European integration, techniques and results of politico-socioeconomic forecasting (the famous early Club of Rome reports, and the Futuribles project led by Bertrand de Jouvenel), the causes and possible antidotes to terrorism, Pugwash concerns and many more. Landmark publications of these years included the celebrated Treatise on international law by Professor Paul Guggenheim and the path-breaking six-volume compilation of historical documents relating to the various forms taken by the Communist International.
Despite many changes over its seven and a half decades, such as its merger with the Graduate Institute of Development Studies in 2007, IHEID has remained faithful to its original vocation, and retains much of its original character.

IHEID is a partner in the publication of the and of the European Journal of Development Research.
Organization
Legal Status
As the two predecessor institutions, IHEID is constituted as a Swiss private law foundation (Fondation pour les hautes tudes internationales et du dveloppement), sharing a convention with the University of Geneva. This is a particular organization form, because IHEID is constituted as a foundation of private law fulfilling a public purpose. In addition, the political responsibility is shared between the Swiss Confederation and the Canton of Geneva. Usually in Switzerland, it is the responsibility of the Cantons to run public universities, except for the Federal Institutes of Technology (ETHZ and EPFL). IHEID is therefore something like a hybrid institution, in-between the two standard categories.
Foundation Board
The Foundation Board is the administrative body of the Institute. It assembles academics, politicians, people of public live and practitioners. Roger de Weck(publicist and journalist) assumes the presidency of the Board as he did for HEI before. The vice-president is Jacques Forster (vice-president of the ICRC). The Board includes among others: Iris Bohnet (professor at the Kennedy School of Government), Peter Gomez (president of the supervisory board of SWX), Jolle Kuntz (journalist), Yves Mny (president of the European University Institute in Florence).
Administration
The Institute is headed by Philippe Burrin, the former director of HEI and his deputy is Michel Carton, the former director of IUED.
Academic Organization
The Graduate Institute comprises 5 academic units: Political Science, International History and Politics, International Law, International Economics, and Development Studies.
Campuses
IHEID is distributed in eight different buildings between the Palace of Nations and Lake Geneva. The main building, Villa Barton, is situated in a private park on the shores of Lake Geneva, while newer constructions are situated in the district regrouping international organizations with offices in Geneva, such as the United Nations. The Villa Moynier campus opened in October 2009 to house the Graduate Institute-based Geneva Academy of International humanitarian law and human rights. The building holds a symbolic significance, as it was originally owned by Gustave Moynier, co-founder of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
In 2012, the construction of a new campus, the Maison de la Paix (House of peace), will be completed. The new campus will bring together the different departments of the institute and the library under one roof. The "Maison de la paix" will also house three international centres supported by the Swiss government: the Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF), the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP) and the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD). The Global Humanitarian Forum, an NGO closely associated to former UN-Secretary General Kofi Annan, will also have its headquarters in the Maison de la paix. Furthermore, IHEID is building a new student residence which will be across the Campus de la Paix. In 2009, Graduate Institute alumni Kathryn Davis made a $10 million donation to the institute to help it develop its campus. As a sign of gratitude, the library of the "Maison de la paix" will be named after her and her late husband, Ambassador Shelby Cullom Davis, who was also an alumnus.
Library
The libraries of IUED and HEI have been merged in August 2007. The new library is now one of the richest libraries in the fields of development and international relations in Switzerland and in Europe. It "houses" 300,000 books about social sciences, journals and annual publications. The Library is also the deposit library of the United Nations, since 1947, of the OSCE, of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), and of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) documents. The Library also manages, since 2003, the "Gender and development" SDC mandate, which collects documents on the subject.

MTB 102
China Product
Construction
Designed by Commander Peter Du Cane CBE, the Managing Director of Vosper Ltd, in 1936. She was completed and launched in 1937, she was bought by the Admiralty and taken into service with the Royal Navy as MTB 102, the 100 prefix denoting a prototype vessel.
She had an all-wood hull, described as "double diagonal Honduras mahogany on Canadian rock elm". inline centrifugal fan
Besides the torpedoes she was built with, depth charges, machine guns and the Swiss Oerlikon 20 mm anti-aircraft cannon were all trialled on her. electric vacuum blower
MTB 102 was the fastest wartime British naval vessel in service at 48 knots. dc blowers
Wartime service
From 1939 to 1940 she was stationed in the English Channel. During Operation Dynamo (the evacuation from Dunkirk, Mayune 1940) she crossed the channel eight times and acted as flagship for Rear Admiral Wake-Walker when his ship was disabled.
In 1943 she was part of 615 Water Transport Company RASC and was renamed Vimy.
In 1944 she carried Winston Churchill and General Eisenhower to review the fleet for Operation Overlord, the invasion of Normandy.
Postwar service
MTB 102 was sold off after the war, and converted to a private motor cruiser on the North Sea. Around 1965 she was sold on and partially converted to a houseboat.
In 1973 she was acquired by a Norfolk Scout Group, in whose care she remained until 1995 when ownership passed to the MTB102 Trust.
In 1976 she was refurbished by a film company for use in the film The Eagle Has Landed, and in the Dutch film Soldier of Orange the following year.
In 1977 she appeared for Queen Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee pageant on the River Thames.
In 1983 and 1990 extensive structural repair work was carried out on the hull and decks totalling around 70,000 .
Since 1979 she has made several appearances at Navy Days and is now listed as part of the National Historic Fleet, Core Collection.
The MTB102 Trust was established in 1996 to fund the operation and maintenance of MTB102.
Several changes of engines have occurred over her life. The original Italian Isotta Fraschini engines became difficult to maintain during the early part of the war as Italy was allied to Germany, though they lasted until replaced after the war when MTB102 was converted into a motor cruiser. In 1985, Perkins Ltd donated two turbocharged diesel engines, and in 1996 and 2002 Cummins Marine provided new engines .

1996-2005: Decade of success sdio gps receiver
The LA Galaxy appeared in the first MLS Cup in 1996 losing to D.C. United. They appeared in it two more times in 1999 and 2001 before finally winning it in 2002. They were regular season champions of the Western Conference in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2001 and 2002, winning the league's Supporters' Shield for best record in 1998 and 2002. They won the U.S. Open Cup in 2001 and 2005 and won the CONCACAF Champions' Cup in 2000. After losing to Landon Donovan and the San Jose Earthquakes in MLS Cup 2001 and in the 2003 MLS Cup playoffs, AEG orchestrated the transfer of Landon Donovan to the Galaxy in 2005, and the Galaxy won the MLS Cup a second time in 2005 to cap off their first decade. 2006-2008
2006: First taste of failure
The 2006 season began on March 16 with the sudden death of Doug Hamilton, the team's 43-year-old general manager, who suffered a heart attack on board a plane carrying the team back from Costa Rica where they had played Saprissa in the CONCACAF Champions' Cup. The season is considered the worst in the Galaxy's history, as the team finished fifth in the Western Conference, eliminating them from playoff contention for the first time since the league's inception. Midway through the season, Steve Sampson was sacked as Head Coach, replaced by Frank Yallop. The team managed to make a run to the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup final, but lost 3-1 against the Chicago Fire.
2007: Arrival of David Beckham and more struggles
On January 11, 2007, Reuters reported that former England captain David Beckham would leave Real Madrid at the end of the season and enter into a five-year deal with the Galaxy.
In March 2007 it was announced that Herbalife would be the primary shirt sponsor of the Galaxy in a five-year deal worth between $45 million a year until 2011.
On July 21, David Beckham made his long-awaited debut before a record crowd of nearly 30,000 at The Home Depot Center, coming on in the 78th minute in a 1-0 loss to Chelsea in a match during the World Series of Football tournament. The match brought unprecedented TV coverage from ESPN, who used 19 cameras to cover it, including one trained only on Beckham, even when he was on the bench. The match set an all-time record high for TV ratings for MLS on ESPN.
The Galaxy played to good results in the Superliga competition, which featured four MLS teams and four Mexican league teams. The Galaxy advanced to the Superliga finals, facing Pachuca, which the Galaxy had defeated in the first round. The Galaxy lost after extra-time on penalty kicks.
In the SuperLiga match versus FC Dallas on July 31, a total of 11 goals were scored, with the final 6-5 in favor of Galaxy. This match tied the all-time record for number of goals scored in a match between two MLS sides, and the win guaranteed the Galaxy a spot in the tournament's semifinals.
In August, following five successive league defeats, pressure mounted on the club, especially head coach, Frank Yallop, and there were widespread rumors that he would be sacked. However, their fortunes turned around and after five straight league victories, the Galaxy's post-season hopes were surprisingly still alive toward the end of the season.
The Galaxy were officially eliminated from the playoffs on October 21, in a 1-0 loss to the Chicago Fire. With a final season record of 9-14-7, both unpopular general manager Alexi Lalas and head coach Frank Yallop were rumored to be in danger of being sacked by owner Philip Anschutz, after a second consecutive season in which the club failed to reach the post-season.
Offseason: departures and arrivals
After the 2007 season Cobi Jones retired. In addition, several players were expected to leave the club in the offseason. Former Germany manager and Orange County, California resident, Jrgen Klinsmann, was rumored to be the favorite to replace Yallop as head coach.
Amidst rumors that he was going to be sacked, Yallop resigned as head coach on November 4, 2007, following a friendly match at Home Depot Center. MLS expansion club, the San Jose Earthquakes, bought out his contract and offered a 3rd round draft pick to the Galaxy to make Yallop their new head coach.
On November 7, rumors spread that former Chelsea, Newcastle United, and Feyenoord manager, Ruud Gullit, had accepted an offer to be the Galaxy's new head coach. On November 9, Gullit was officially unveiled as the Galaxy's head coach, signing a three-year contract with the club which made him the highest paid coach in MLS history. Newly-retired Galaxy and international star Cobi Jones was brought on as assistant coach.
On November 19, 2007, the Galaxy acquired U.S. international Clint Mathis from New York for a third round pick in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft. He made his debut for the Galaxy in a friendly at Telstra Stadium against Sydney and scored the first goal in the Galaxy's match versus Wellington Phoenix. In a strange move which led to more criticism of under-fire club G.M. Alexi Lalas, less than two months after acquiring Mathis, he was sold to Greek club Ergotelis. It is believed that coach Ruud Gullit did not want Mathis in his squad. On November 21, in the 2007 MLS Expansion Draft, the Galaxy lost forward Gavin Glinton with the ninth pick to stock expansion club, the San Jose Earthquakes.
The Galaxy went on a promotional tour of Australia and New Zealand and played two friendlies with teams of the new Australian A-League. In a match against Sydney on November 27, captain David Beckham scored via a trademark free kick, but the Galaxy lost, 5-3. The match resulted in the largest attendance in Australia for a club friendly, with just over 82,000 spectators, and was the first game since the A-leagues inception that a game was televised on free to air television. The Galaxy recorded a 4-1 win over Wellington Phoenix on December 1. Beckham again scored, this time from the penalty spot, during the second half. The attendance of 31,853 was a record for a football match in New Zealand. L.A. plans a friendly against FC Barcelona for late June.
On January 10, 2008, goalkeeper Joe Cannon was sold to the San Jose Earthquakes, where he was reunited with Frank Yallop, for an undisclosed allocation fee. While Cannon was very popular with Galaxy supporters and his performances were one of the few positives last season, salary cap space was required for new striker Carlos Ruiz. Steve Cronin, who recently signed a multi-year contract extension with L.A., was expected to be the starting goalkeeper for the club next season. The team also signed the 2007 USL1 Goalkeeper of the Year, Josh Wicks, as Cronin's backup.
On January 15, 2008, the Galaxy reacquired 28-year-old striker Carlos Ruiz from FC Dallas to replace the ineffective Carlos Pavon, who had been recently released by the club, for a second-round draft pick in 2009 and an undisclosed amount of allocation money. This is Ruiz' second stint with the Galaxy, where from 200204, he was the club's leading scorer in each season, garnering MLS MVP honors and scoring a league-best 24 goals enroute to leading the club to its first MLS Cup championship in 2002. In 2005, he was dealt to F.C. Dallas to make way for Landon Donovan. Ruiz is the leading scorer in MLS postseason history and is the 8th leading scorer in league history. In Ruiz, L.A. has secured a proven goal-scorer, something they seriously lacked last season, and supporters will eagerly await how he partners with captain David Beckham and strike partner, Landon Donovan.
In January, rumors began to circulate that the Galaxy was interested in acquiring Inter Milan midfielder Lus Figo and that a deal may have already been signed. The purchase of Carlos Ruiz rather than an established striker from Europe (such as Andriy Shevchenko), who would take up the club's second designated player slot (which the Galaxy would need to acquire from another club), increased the speculation that Figo would be reunited with former Real Madrid teammate, David Beckham, in Los Angeles On January 18, 2008, the speculation intensified when the Galaxy sold defender Chris Albright to the New England Revolution for an undisclosed allocation fee. Rumor sites had been claiming for weeks that if Albright was sold to clear up salary space, Figo would be on his way to L.A. after his contract expires with Inter Milan in June.
On January 21, 2008, The Times reported that 29-year-old former Chelsea and Newcastle United defender, Celestine Babayaro, had signed a 3-year-deal with the Galaxy after being released by Newcastle. Babayaro was expected to partner fellow former Premier League defender Abel Xavier in the heart of the L.A. defense next season and also be reunited with his former manager at Chelsea, Ruud Gullit. However, on March 3, Babayaro was released by the club after playing only 45 minutes for L.A. Speculation ensued that he was released because he either demanded too much money or was deemed not good enough by Ruud Gullit.
On February 15, the Galaxy acquired 33-year-old defender Greg Vanney from D.C. United in exchange for midfielder Quavas Kirk, as a replacement for Ty Hardin, who strangely retired after only one season with the club. Vanney, who began his MLS career with the Galaxy in 1996, returns to Los Angeles after previous stops at FC Dallas, Colorado and D.C. United, as well as a three year stint with Bastia in France's Ligue 1.
On February 21, the Galaxy fell 1-0 to Japanese club Gamba Osaka in the semi-finals of the inaugural Pan-Pacific Championship in Honolulu, Hawaii. However, on February 23, LA defeated Sydney 2-1 in the tournament third-place match. David Beckham assisted on both goals, scored by rookie Ely Allen and Josh Tudela.
In the opening match of the club's pre-season tour of Asia, the Galaxy fell 2-1 in penalties to FC Seoul after drawing 1-1 in regulation. In the 22nd minute, captain Beckham assisted Alan Gordon off a free kick to take the lead. However, ten minutes later, Celestine Babayaro, in his debut (and only appearance for the club), was called for a penalty, from which FC Seoul eqaulized. Babayaro was surprisingly released by the club following the match. Following a dull, scoreless second half, the match went to penalties to decide the Motorola Cup champion. After David Beckham made L.A.'s first penalty, Carlos Ruiz, Peter Vagenas, Chris Klein and Greg Vanney all missed, handing victory to the Koreans.
The second leg of the Asian tour took place March 5 versus Shanghai-Hong Kong United (All-Star team). The Galaxy won 3-0 with a hat-trick from Carlos Ruiz. The first was assisted by Beckham just before the half with the latter 2 provided by rookies Sean Franklin and Ely Allen.
In the final pre-season match of the Asian Tour, the Galaxy fell 5-4 in penalties to Hong Kong Union (All-Star team) after drawing 2-2 in regulation. The regulation goals came from Alan Gordon and a penalty kick by Beckham. The lone miss in the penalty shootout came from Greg Vanney.
In the final friendly match of the pre-season, the Galaxy played in a scoreless draw versus FC Dallas in the FC Dallas Foundation Charity Game in Frisco, Texas.
2008: Expectations unfulfilled
Amid high expectations, on March 29, 2008, Los Angeles kicked off the 2008 season against the Colorado Rapids in Denver. However, despite the team being at full-strength, including a fully-fit and healthy David Beckham, the match proved to be a disaster as L.A. limped to a 4-0 defeat. Despite an impressive display by Galaxy captain Beckham, who was integral by putting his teammates in position to tie the game three times, Carlos Ruiz and Landon Donovan failed to find the net. Especially disappointing was 35-year-old center back Abel Xavier, who was repeatedly beaten in a nightmare performance. In the 10th minute, he conceded the free kick from which the Rapids scored their first goal, along with committing a penalty from which Colorado scored their second goal in the 60th minute. To complete his miserable night, Xavier was sent off in the 89th minute for bumping the referee while protesting a decision. To make things worse, Ruiz sprained his MCL in his right knee and required surgery. He was ruled out 46 weeks.
On April 3, L.A. took on expansion club, the San Jose Earthquakes (and former coach Frank Yallop and goalkeeper Joe Cannon) in a match broadcast nationally on ESPN's MLS Primetime Thursday. Beckham and Donovan played well in the Galaxy's home opener and assisted each other on their respective goals, in a dominant 2-0 win in the restarting of the "California Clasico." The strike was Beckham's first goal in MLS league play.
The Galaxy played Real Salt Lake on May 3, Real scored two back-to-back goals by Kenny Deuchar and Fabian Espindola before the Galaxy struck. Beckham scored back-to-back goals, both in the top right corner. One was an assist from Gordon, the following one a free kick from about 25-30 yards out. Beckham's two-goal effort tied the game, giving the Galaxy another point in the standings. The Galaxy played their next match against recent expansion chicago fire. Despite Landon Donovan scoring twice to pull the Galaxy from behind, they ultimately fell 3-2 to a late Jeff Cunningham goal.
Following the Toronto match, the Galaxy faced defending MLS Cup champions Houston Dynamo. Another two goal game from Landon Donovan (both assisted by David Beckham) proved enough to earn a point as the two sides drew 2-2.
The first installment of the Honda SuperClasico occurred 4-26-08 as the league's only cross-town rivals, Chivas USA and the Galaxy played. The Galaxy won the game 5-2 with Landon Donovan scoring a hat trick getting his league-leading 6th, 7th and 8th goals of the season.
After a 2-1 loss to Red Bull New York, coach Gullit bemoaned a 'lack of leadership'. On May 24, 2008, L.A. defeated the Kansas City Wizards 3-1, giving the Galaxy their first winning record in two years and moving the club into first place in the Western Division. Landon Donovan scored his league-leading 9th goal of the season and David Beckham scored a spectacular goal from 70 yards out.
However, defensive mishaps plagued the Galaxy and after they squandered two leads to the Columbus Crew in a 3-3 tie, Kyle McCarthy declared "The broken defense needs fixing" and urged the Galaxy that a defensive midfielder is "the one position that requires some immediate attention once the transfer window opens," and doubted whether Galaxy could win the MLS Cup without adjustments to its defense. On MLSnet.com's Extratime, Greg Lalas said, "It seems like there's a lack of concentration in the back. Abel Xavier obviously isn't the answer in the back there, let alone on the middle of the bench," while co-commentator Shep Messing added, "Young Steve Cronin reminds me of Brad Guzan last year with Chivas. I mean just getting pummelled." He suggested the Galaxy fix their defense by "getting a good central defender, they don't have one," or by strengthening the defensive midfield. General Manager Alexi Lalas confirmed this, saying, "t no revelation that given our defensive performance this season, wee looking to bolster that side of the equation," adding "wee settled on a guy who we think can help us."
On July 8, 2008, the Los Angeles Galaxy, announced that Argentinian central defender Eduardo Domnguez had joined the team. Pending his visa and the transfer window to open up on July 15, 2008, Dominguez was not expected to begin his Galaxy career against Chivas USA. His shirt number was assigned the number 25he same number he wore while playing for Huracan.
On August 11, 2008, following a 3-2 loss to the San Jose Earthquakes, Ruud Gullit resigned as coach from the Los Angeles Galaxy citing personal reasons, and president and general manager Alexi Lalas was relieved of his duties. This followed a seven-game winless streak which saw the Galaxy fall from 1st place in the Western Conference to outside playoff contention.
Former US men's national team head coach Bruce Arena was hired to replace Gullit on August 18, 2008. On October 18, 2008, a 3-0 loss to the Houston Dynamo officially eliminated the Galaxy from playoff contention for the third-straight season.
The Galaxy defeated an Oceania XI 3-0 in a one off friendly in Auckland, New Zealand on December 6, 2008.
Beckham and Donovan loans
In January, both club captain David Beckham and vice-captain Landon Donovan were involved in loan deals with European clubs until the beginning of the new MLS season. Beckham was loaned from January to March to Italian giants A.C. Milan, while Donovan was loaned to German giants Bayern Munich. While Donovan had already made it clear that he was seeking a permanent transfer to Munich, Beckham was expected to return to L.A. in March, prior to the 2009 season. However, after impressing at the Italian club, scoring two goals in his first four matches, rumors began to swirl that Beckham would stay in Milan, with the Italian club reportedly offering to pay a multi-million dollar fee for the English legend. The rumors were confirmed on February 4, when Beckham stated that he was seeking a permanent transfer to Milan, in a bid to sustain his England career through the 2010 World Cup.
On February 7, it was announced that Galaxy officials had rejected Milan's initial offer, believed to be in the region of 5 million pounds, claiming the offer was "too low" and that "time was running out" to conclude the deal. It was believed that the Los Angeles club were seeking an offer in the $1015 million range, but wanted the deal finished quickly, as the club wanted to rebuild the squad with the transfer money prior to the start of the league season in March. Several Milan players and manager Carlo Ancelotti expressed their desire for Beckham to stay with the club permanently, with Ancelotti even pleading with Milan executives to "make sacrifices" to sign Beckham.
In a surprise twist on February 13, L.A. announced that Milan had failed to make the expected second offer prior to MLS commissioner Don Garber's deadline on the 13th, and that Beckham would be staying with the Galaxy for the 2009 season. The American club also revealed that Beckham did have a release clause in his contract that would allow him to leave for free at the conclusion of the 2009 season. On February 14, Milan chief executive, Adriano Galliani dismissed the MLS deadline, calling it a "tactic" and said that Milan were still hopeful of signing Beckham. Ancelotti also referred to Beckham as "indispensable" to his squad and reiterated his desire that Beckham stay with the club.
On March 5, it was announced that the Bayern Munich were not interested in offering Donovan a permanent contract and that he would be returning to the Galaxy prior to the start of the MLS season. Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge stated that with strikers such as Miroslav Klose and Luca Toni already available, additional forwards should be young "with perspective".
On March 8, one day before his loan deal was to expire, it was announced that Milan and Los Angeles had reached an agreement to allow Beckham to stay in Italy until the conclusion of the Rossoneri's season in June, similar to a timeshare deal. According to the terms of the deal, Beckham will take a short vacation before returning to the Galaxy in July, possibly for a scheduled friendly match against Milan. According to Galaxy officials, the unique deal was "funded jointly by Milan and the player himself." A Milan source stated that the club had paid less than $6 million, with Beckham paying the remainder of the fee himself.
After the deal was announced, Beckham stated that his family was settled in L.A. and would be remaining there, which cast doubts on speculation that Beckham was seeking a permanent move to Milan. While his future remains unclear after the conclusion of the MLS season in November, it is believed that Beckham plans to return to Milan in January and remain with the Rossoneri through the Italian season again. Then, after presumably playing for England in the 2010 World Cup, he would return to MLS permanently to stay with the Galaxy.
In January 2010, it was announced that Donovan would be loaned to play for Everton in the English Premier League with his National Teammate, Tim Howard, to gain more experience playing at a higher level for his trip to the World Cup in South Africa. He is expected to stay with Everton until the World Cup in June, where he will then go and play for USA.
2009: Falling short

With the win they qualify to the 201011 CONCACAF Champions League Preliminary Round. The Los Angeles Galaxy faced off Real Salt Lake on Sunday, November 22 at Qwest Field in Seattle, Washington and tied 1-1 through extra time and lost the MLS cup on (5-4 on penalties).

Rivalries
The Galaxy's traditional rival is the San Jose Earthquakes, with whom they battled in the California Clasico until the Earthquakes players and head coach Dominic Kinnear were relocated to Houston, Texas following the 2005 season, becoming the Houston Dynamo. The Galaxy, the Earthquakes and the Dynamo combined to win six of the last seven MLS Cup titles (20012007), each team winning two. San Jose's victory over the Galaxy for the title in 2001 was carried out under the leadership of Frank Yallop, with Joe Cannon in goal and Landon Donovan scoring for the Quakes in a 2-1 victory. The two clubs also had epic playoff battles in 2003 and 2005. Following the former Earthquakes players' and head coach's departure to Houston, the Galaxy failed to make the playoffs for the first time in club history in 2006 and repeated the feat in 2007. After having been revived under new ownership as an MLS team for the 2008 season, the Earthquakes returned to the Galaxy's list of closest rivals, resuming the California Clasico.
The Galaxy's biggest rival in the 1990s was D.C. United, when the two squads met in MLS Cup 1996 and MLS Cup 1999. The Galaxy lost 3-2, in overtime, and 2-0, respectively. This rivalry remains strong, as the two clubs are the two most successful clubs in MLS history, along with having the two largest fan bases in the league.
The Galaxy's chief rival for the past few years has been Chivas USA, with whom they share a home stadium. The Galaxyhivas USA game is the league's first derby, known as the Honda SuperClasico. Although the Galaxy won all four games the first year of the rivalry, in 2006 a more competitive Chivas side increased the popularity of the SuperClassico, which features sell-out crowds and great atmosphere. The Galaxy won 3 of 4 Classico games in 2006. In the 2007 inaugural tournament Superliga, a new much-anticipated rivalry was formed. The Galaxy took on Chivas USA's parent team Club Deportivo Guadalajara at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and lost 2-1, however they still advanced to the next round leaving their rivals behind.
The rivalry between the Galaxy and Chivas USA heated up during a match on August 23, 2007 when Chivas USA player Jesse Marsch applied committed a professional foul to stop a counter attack by kicking Galaxy captain David Beckham's upper right hip from behind, at the end of the first half. This led to a tense confrontation between Beckham and Marsch, during which Beckham was restrained by teammate Edson Buddle. A shoving match occurred, and Galaxy's midfielder Kevin Harmse threw a punch towards Chivas USA player Alex Zotinca who retaliated by headbutting Harmse. Both players received red cards, and Chivas USA went on to win the match 3-0.
Mascot
Cozmo in action at The Home Depot Center.
The Los Angeles Galaxy's mascot is "Cozmo", a frog-like extraterrestrial. It is said that Cozmo was beamed down to The Home Depot Center from his intergalactic spaceship on June 7, 2003.
The team website claims that Cozmo is also niversally known as a goalkeeper who can stop shots traveling at the speed of light, but also possesses the speed and skill to play forward for any team on the planet.
Cozmo is loved for his antics while entertaining fans during games. In addition, he makes special appearances throughout Southern California, representing the team and is known for teaching kids the basics of soccer.
Cozmo replaced the Galaxy's original mascot, "Twizzle", who also looked like it was from outer space but was more humanoid in form, wearing a space-man's helmet and cape. Twizzle was prone to making muscle-man poses.
Television and radio
Galaxy matches are televised regionally on Fox Sports West & Fox Sports Prime Ticket alternatively. Jim Watson and Mark Rogondino are the English language announcers. Spanish TV broadcasts for selected games can be seen on KWHY Channel 22 with Elmer Polanco (Play-by-Play) and Alejandro Navarro (Commentary)
For the 2009-2010 season, regular season matches will be broadcast on KLAC 570 AM (Los Angeles/Orange County) & KTLK 1150 AM alternatively in English and in Spanish on KWKW 1330 AM (Los Angeles). Joe Tutino does the English play-by-play while Rolando "El Veloz" Gonzalez (Play-By-Play) and Armando Aguayo (Commentary) handle the Spanish broadcasts.
